Villagers oppose proposed quarry
Residents of a Leicestershire village have started a letter-writing campaign to protest at plans for a quarry.

Aggregate Industries has applied to convert a site in North Kilworth into a sand and gravel operation.

The villagers met with Leicestershire County Council about concerns over increased traffic levels, noise and the effects on underground water.

Peter Jones from the parish council says they are worried the quarry will disrupt life in the village.

"A development of this sort is substantial for a rural community - we will have 60 laden vehicles coming into the village every day," he said.

"We already have a fairly heavy flow of cars coming into the village."

Concerned villagers have also met with representatives from Severn Trent to discuss the proposals.

Aggregrate Industries were not available for comment.
