Police tackle crime fears
Police in part of Leicester are increasing patrols in an operation against anti-social behaviour.

Operation Claymore will see police surveillance vans, motorcyclists and police officers with dogs visiting trouble spots in Braunstone.

It has been launched in response to residents' complaints about young people meeting in parts of the estate.

But police have also said the fear of anti-social behaviour can be worse than the reality.

Published results

Inspector Rachel Swann said: "While we are going out to deal with any offences we come across, more often than not it is often people hanging around.

"People's perception, or increased fear of crime, sometimes comes from that.

"They don't want to walk the dog past the group of youths even though the youths are not doing anything wrong.

"I would like to reassure people while we will publish the results of this operation part of it is to show much of the time people are not doing anything wrong."
