Mining plan submitted
UK Coal has applied to start open-cast mining in Leicestershire despite protests from nearby residents.

The application is for the Long Moor site near the village of Packington in the National Forest.

It would be used for a one-off three- year-period of mining after which the site would be fully restored.

Local residents say they will fight the plans which are the third similar application on the site.

They are supported by David Taylor, MP for North West Leicestershire in their opposition to the scheme.
