Website tackles housing shortage
A new website is being launched to tackle an affordable homes shortage in part of Leicestershire.

There are over a thousand people on waiting lists for a council house in Harborough.

Starter homes in the town can cost well over a 100,000.

On the commuter route to London, Harborough has become an expensive place to live, with 2 bed terraces costing up to 110,000.

Low cost

There are over 1,000 people waiting for council homes in the district and only 64 unoccupied properties.

Council housing offices get over 100 enquiries per week.

It was in response to this problem that the council set up the new website.

It hopes will match up affordable homes at the low cost end of the market to people who need them.

Housing associations

The site - harboroughhomes.org.uk - will also give advice about home buying options.

Phil Warrington, the project manager for Harborough Home Search, said: "What we have tried to do is bring details of all affordable housing options under this one roof on the website.

"So there are details of council and housing association properties.

"And also shared ownership properties and people who want to exchange their properties."
