The family must move out before repairs begin |
A family whose house was hit by a 35-ton lorry have been told it could be weeks before alternative accommodation is found. Richard and Jo Payne and their two children need to move out of their privately rented house for building work to start.
But Charnwood Borough Council has admitted it has no housing available and they may have to go into a hotel.
The heavy goods vehicle crashed into the front of the house just 10 minutes after two-year-old Sophie woke up from sleeping in the front room.
Housing shortfall
The accident happened on Churchill Road in Thurmaston almost two weeks ago.
Despite the house being left badly damaged, the Paynes have continued to live there.
But now they must leave as the entire roof needs to be repaired and little remains of the front of the house.
The couple says it is a stressful situation.
Mrs Payne said: "It's just waiting on the council's decision really.
"Obviously we are asking, but unless one become available we will be homeless."
District Councillor for Thurmaston, Tony Cowles, admits there is a shortfall of council accommodation, but says everything is being done to house the family as quickly as possible.
