Lorry crashes into house
Building inspectors will look at the house
A heavy goods vehicle has crashed into the front of a house in Leicestershire, narrowly missing a small child.

Just 10 minutes before the incident a two-year-old girl woke up from sleeping in the front room.

No one was hurt in the incident which happened at 1430 BST on Churchill Road in Thurmaston, at its junction with Earls Way.

The 38-tonne lorry crashed through the garden and into the front of the property but the cause is as yet unknown.

Crash investigation

The fire brigade turned off the gas supply because of fears of a leak and have called out Transco to make sure everything is safe.

Richard Payne, who rents the house with his partner, had to pin himself against a wall as the lorry struck.

He said: "My first thought was for my daughter whose bedroom it had crashed into.

"She had just finished her afternoon nap so I knew she was up but might still be in the bedroom.

"So I ran out into the corridor and saw this scene of devastation."

Building inspectors are now assessing the damage and inspectors from the Department of Transport are on their way to investigate the cause of the crash.
