Culture cuts survey faces apathy
Design for new theatre
A new theatre is among the threatened projects
The public are being urged to give their views on a major overhaul of Leicester's leisure services.

So far only 900 people have replied to a questionnaire giving them a say in the future of museums, sports facilities and cultural projects.

The survey is part of the city council's response to a 41.5m shortfall in funding over the next five years.

Officers say they are disappointed at the response, particularly because the form was also given to 1,300 city council staff.

Deadline approaching

The controversial questionnaire lists more than 40 events and facilities and how much they cost to run.

The public are being asked to say which they would invest in and which they would close or reduce.

They range from museums, leisure centres and venues like De Montfort Hall to regeneration projects and public art.

Council officers say they would need to find the 41.5m to fund investments, keep existing services running and for other one-off events.

With the deadline less than a week away, officers hope more people will send their forms back.
