Police said they arrested Burnley and Blackburn fans |
Police have arrested more than 40 football supporters following the East Lancashire derby. Blackburn Rovers beat Burnley 1-0 at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon. Lancashire Police said there was trouble inside and outside the Burnley ground and they had arrested supporters of both clubs. Special arrangements were made before the game and officers warned fans that anyone who caused trouble could face a banning order. 'Pockets of disorder' Supt Terry Woods, of Lancashire Police, said "pockets of disorder" were dealt with quickly. He said police used an intelligence database as part of the operation to make a number of pro-active arrests as a preventative measure against further disorder within specific groups. "I would like to point out that the vast majority of fans have behaved appropriately," he added. Trouble also broke out after the last derby game in October and several people were charged with violent disorder offences.
