Police warn Blackburn and Burnley fans over behaviour

Police have issued a warning to anyone considering causing trouble at the Lancashire derby football match that they could face a banning order.

Special arrangements have been made, which included Blackburn Rovers fans being taken to Burnley's Turf Moor ground on buses.

A number of people were charged with violent disorder offences after trouble broke out at a derby game in October.

Those with banning orders have been reminded of their terms and conditions.

I want to reassure people attending the game that we will not be letting a minority spoil what is a historic encounter
Ch Insp Jeff Brown, from Lancashire Police

Before the match Ch Insp Jeff Brown, from Lancashire Police, said: "We have worked extremely closely with both Burnley and Blackburn Rovers Football Club's, when planning the policing operation for both games.

"We have also, where best we can, have tried to replicate the same logistical plans that were in place for the first match at Ewood Park.

"Only 0.04% of people attending football matches actually cause problems at the games and this represents the tiniest of minorities. I want to reassure people attending the game that we will not be letting a minority spoil what is a historic encounter."

He said there would be "resources available on the day to deal with any incidents of disorder" and that officers would also look to secure banning orders on offenders.
