Police believe the house was deliberately set on fire |
An award dedicated to the memory of a woman who died with her four daughters when her house was set on fire is to be presented in her home town on Friday. Caneze Riaz, 39, and daughters Sayrah, 16, Sophia, 12, Alicia, 10, and Hannah, aged three, died in their beds at the house in Accrington on 1 November.
Police believe the fire was started by the children's father, Mohammed.
The Awaaz Asian Women's Group will award a prize to mark Mrs Riaz's community work at Accrington Town Hall.
She was a founder member of the group and also worked for the Hyndburn Cultural Association.
The funeral cortege arrived under police escort |
The ceremony will take place as part of a celebration of Mrs Riaz's life. Guests of honour will be Mrs Riaz's mother and brother, and members of community groups from across east Lancashire are also expected to attend.
Detectives believe Mohammed Riaz, 49, locked all the doors in the house on Tremellen Street before starting several fires all over the house.
He was named as the only suspect in the murder investigation, but died in hospital before detectives could question him.
An inquest into all six deaths has been adjourned until February.
The Riaz family's other son, Adam, 17, was not at the house at the time of the fire as he was being treated for leukaemia at the Christie Hospital in Manchester.
He died in hospital from his illness last month.
