A house fire has killed a mother and her four daughters in Accrington. The bodies of Caneze Riaz, 39, and her daughters Sayrah, 16, Sophia, 15, Alicia, 10, and three-year-old Hannah were found in the early hours. Residents in Tremellen Street have been speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire about the tragedy... Headteacher John Bowden of the Hyndburn Park Primary School where three of the girls and their older brother had all attended described it as a 'real tragedy'. Caneze Riaz was also a former employee at the school - she had worked there as a classroom assistant. Mr Bowden said:"There were lots of tears in the staffroom when the news was announced." Andrew Bateman - who is headteacher of Accrington Moorhead Sports College - said the staff were 'extremely shocked'. Chief Executive of Accrington Stanley - Rob Heys - knew Mrs Riaz through her work on the Diversity Forum which was set up to encourage more Asian people to become involved in the club. |
