Crews visit fire death community
Policewoman near fire scene
Investigations show whoever started the fire did not leave afterwards
Firefighters are visiting residents near the scene of a blaze in which a woman and her four daughters died.

An murder inquiry has begun after a fire was started at the house, killing Caneze Riaz, 39, Sayrah, 16, Sophia, 15, Alicia, 10, and Hannah, 3.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service's community fire safety staff have been speaking to members of the community.

Chief Fire Officer Peter Holland said it was important to offer Accrington residents "reassurance and advice".

Mrs Riaz and her children were already dead in bed from smoke inhalation when fire crews broke into their Tremellen Street home in the early hours of Wednesday.

Her husband, Mohammed, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Firefighters are offering neighbouring residents fire safety check in which crews point our potential hazards and safety measures.

Mr Holland said: "At a time of such tragedy, we feel it is important for our community fire safety team to be able to talk to local residents and offer reassurance and advice.

"Our home fire safety checks are free and available to all residents within the county and I hope that local people will make use of this service."

Investigations into the fire, which was started shortly before 0200 GMT, have revealed that the house had been locked up from the inside and flammable materials used in the fire.

Forensic examinations have deduced that whoever set the fire did not leave the house afterwards.

A book of condolence has been set up for the family at Accrington town hall.
