Rival resort wins punk festival
Punk fans in Morecambe
The punk festival has been a big success in Morecambe
The Morecambe Punk Festival will be moving back to Blackpool in 2006, its organisers have announced.

It is expected to be a blow to hoteliers and other tourist trades in the north Lancashire resort.

The festival is credited with generating large amounts of revenue for the local economy, with The Stranglers on the bill of this year's event.

Organisers have announced it would be cheaper to hold the festival at Blackpool's Winter Gardens next year.

The decision comes despite Lancaster City Council's cabinet backing a larger punk festival in Morecambe which would have allowed a further 2,000 tickets to be sold.

The festival was held in Blackpool until 1996 before moving to Morecambe the following year.
