The National Football Museum in Lancashire is playing host to a major tournament - in miniature.

Competitors are battling it out in the English International Subbuteo Table Football Championship in Preston.

The top-ranked players will also be showing off their skills to museum visitors when the competition gets under way on Saturday.

Mark Bushell, museum spokesman said: "These players have all the passion of top professional sportsmen and women."

Chris Wrigley, one of the event organisers, said the winner would compete at the Subbuteo World Cup in Belgium in August.

He said: "A lot of hard sweat and tears has been shed in the build-up to this tournament by the players.

"A gruelling fixture list, alongside endless hours of training and travelling have been undertaken to get these players where they are in the sport."
