Jobs in the construction industry are being promoted by a Lancashire regeneration company to try to fill a national skills shortage.

Housing market renewal group Elevate East Lancashire wants to find and train young people to go into the industry at apprentice level.

It says young people are needed to fit the job opportunities it creates.

"Involvement from the area's local businesses is key," Elevate chief executive Max Steinberg said.

"This will also ensure a positive effect on the local economy, and we are delighted that our investment is creating has created jobs and apprenticeships for East Lancashire local people."

Elevate East Lancashire is a government project focussed on improving the quality and diversity of the housing stock in local towns.

The programme concentrates on properties in the inner urban areas of Blackburn, Darwen, Accrington, Church, Clayton, Burnley, Padiham, Brierfield, Nelson, Colne, Bacup and Stacksteads.
