Library opens after arson attack

Specialist cleaning teams restored smoke-damaged books
A library is opening its doors again two months after an arson attack forced it to close.

The fire caused extensive damage to Bispham library in Blackpool, Lancashire, at the end of December.

Specialists were drafted in to treat the furniture and books with a substance which neutralises the effects of the smoke.

Visitors returned to the library - which attracts 6,000 people a month - on Monday.

The fire destroyed the entrance doors and smoke damaged the library's stock.

But the work did turn up a piece of history - the original date stone from 1937 was uncovered by a decorator.
