Police want more people to report hate crime

Detectives in Lancashire have launched a campaign to help those affected by religious, racist or homophobic crimes.

The True Vision campaign is designed to deal with issues such as bullying, domestic abuse and forced marriage.

The force have put together information packs which include self-report forms for victims and witnesses of hate crimes to fill out anonymously.

Police hope by distributing the packs more people will feel able to report crimes.

Acting Chief Constable Steve Finningan said: "We know that incidents of hate crime are continually under-reported and so it is vital that we adopt as many positive schemes as possible to help people to self-report.

"It is not always easy for victims or witnesses of such crimes to feel comfortable in reporting them, either because they do not wish to give their details or for cultural reasons, but this method helps the police to build a fuller picture of the problem and improve intelligence."
