'Don't get smashed', drivers told
Peugeot car damaged in crash
The scheme uses a graphic image of a car crash
Graphic images of car crash scenes are to be used in an attempt to stop people from drinking and driving.

The Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety will use the images on posters as well as on the back of fire engines.

Their "Don't Get Smashed Tonight" campaign is targeting young people, who account for 25% of those charged with drink-driving offences in the county.

Police are on heightened alert to look for suspected drink drivers, including during the morning rush hour to work.

Latest figures show well over one quarter of drivers charged with drink-driving offences were men aged between 17 and 25 years old.

Police will be stopping motorists and handing out campaign materials at their checkpoints in Lancaster on Monday.
