Seaside facelift shuts main route
Blackpool illuminations
The work is starting now the illuminations are switched off
Traffic delays are expected for the next 20 weeks with the closure of one of the main roads into Blackpool.

Traffic is being diverted from Seasiders Way to allow the Bloomfield Road bridge to be demolished.

It is the start of the 12m Central Gateway project - the biggest scheme since Blackpool tower was built 110 years ago.

Traffic will be diverted at the end of Yeadon Way onto Waterloo Road and Central Drive.

'World-class' resort

The work starts following this year's illuminations, which finished at the weekend.

The Central Gateway Project is the biggest scheme since the resort's famous Blackpool tower was built 110 years ago.

It will create a spectacular entrance to the town centre by transforming acres of tarmac into parkland - the first major park to be built in the town for over 50 years.

The project marks the start of Blackpool's 1bn masterplan, designed to re-invent the town, rejuvenate the local economy and establish a world-class resort, creating 20,000 jobs over the next 15 years.
