City celebrates 125 light years
Blackpool Illuminations will be switched off for a short time on Sunday to mark the 125th anniversary of the resort's first light show.

Organisers want to re-create the atmosphere of the first event in 1879 when the Promenade was first illuminated.

The moment will be marked by a huge firework and laser show which it is hoped will be visible for miles around.

Illuminations Manager Richard Ryan says the event will be a unique experience.

The illuminations cost 2.4m to stage with more than a million lamps in the display.

They are expected to attract more than 3.5m visitors to the resort.
