The couple say they want to know what happened to their daughter |
A couple once suspected of killing their teenage daughter have offered a 5,000 reward to catch her killer. Iftikhar and Farzana Ahmed, from Warrington, Cheshire, were ruled out of the investigation last week into the murder of their daughter Shafilea, 17.
Their solicitor, Milton Firman, said the couple aged 44 and 41, are offering a 5,000 reward for information leading to the killer's conviction.
They are also considering legal action against Cheshire Police.
Parents' aim
"Shafilea's parents' primary aim is to bring her killer to justice and they hope the reward will help bring that about," said Mr Firman.
Iftikhar and Farzana Ahmed were released from police bail on Thursday, describing the last nine months as "hell".
Shafilea Ahmed, 17, disappeared from home in September 2003. Her body was found beside the River Kent in Cumbria in the Lake District in February.
There had been speculation she was the victim of an honour killing.
Joint appeal
She wrote poems about feeling trapped and had earlier drunk bleach after being introduced to a suitor for an arranged marriage.
Mr Firman has criticised the Cheshire Constabulary investigation and said Mr and Mrs Ahmed were frustrated at not being kept informed.
He wrote to the force outlining his concerns and requesting a joint press conference between detectives and Mr and Mrs Ahmed to appeal for help.
Mr Firman said his clients did not accept invitations to attend the earlier press conferences because they felt they had been "deliberately excluded" from the investigation.
