Library's centenary celebrations
Revoe Library
The library was built on the site of a farm
A library is taking a step back in time to celebrate its centenary.

Revoe Library in Blackpool first opened its doors 100 years ago and is celebrating the milestone with a series of events this week.

One of the highlights takes place on Tuesday when schoolchildren and members of the local community are invited to come to a history workshop.

The youngsters will get to dress in Victorian garb, make commemorative bookmarks and play with antique toys.

On Friday, ex-staff and guests are looking at the library's own history, and Revoe school children are performing and reciting Albert and the Lion, a historical poem about the Blackpool Tower Circus.

Members of the Central Drive Community Association are also unveiling a Civic Trust heritage plaque, which will enable the library to be included in the resort's heritage trail.

The library was built on the former site of Revoe farm.

A decade ago it was renovated and, as well as the tradition bookshelves, it now boasts nine PCs and free internet access.
