Investigators of the cockle picking tragedy were alerted on Wednesday |
Body parts found in the River Lune near Lancaster are not those of a victim of the Morecambe Bay cockle tragedy, police have confirmed. Detectives investigating the February cockle picking tragedy were waiting for results of a post-mortem examination of the human remains on Friday.
A force spokesman said the body was local man, Mark Stackhouse, 29, who went missing in February.
A fisherman found the body parts at about 0900 BST on Wednesday.
Police believe two cockle pickers are still missing.
A total of 23 died in Morecambe Bay in February.
The migrant workers all drowned on 5 February this year when they were caught in the dark on the mudflats by a fast-rising tide, in the Hest Bank area of the bay.
