Cockler detectives probe remains

Investigators of the cockle picking tragedy have been called in
Detectives trying to trace the bodies of victims of the cockle picking tragedy in Lancashire are investigating the discovery of human remains.

The body parts were found in the River Lune near Lancaster on Wednesday morning, Lancashire Police confirmed.

A spokesman said a fisherman discovered the body in the river at Aldcliffe at about 0900 BST.

Investigators, who are trying to find two of the 23 victims of the cockle tragedy, have been called in.

A spokesman said: "Detective Superintendent Mick Gradwell, who is leading the team, has been made aware of the find and his team will be investigating as to whether the body is one of the two missing cocklers."
