Royal Lancashire Show stays put
Muddy field
Wet weather and mud dampened last year's event
The Royal Lancashire Show will be held at Salesbury for a second year despite chaos at last year's event.

It was moved from Chorley to its new location at Salesbury Hall Farm in Ribchester, in the Ribble Valley in 2003.

But huge traffic delays and heavy rain last year led to visitors complaining about muddy pathways and uneven road surfaces.

Organisers say lessons have been learned and plans for better roads are being put forward.

The second day of last year's event heralded a mass of complaints from visitors trying to reach the showground.

If they hadn't gone ahead at Salesbury, the show wouldn't have been held at all

Queues lasting more than two hours were reported, and heavy rain led to a quagmire on the fields.

The third day was cancelled, but despite Salesbury's unlucky start organisers say the show must go on.

Rennie Pinder, who has been re-elected as show chairman for a fourth year, said: "If they hadn't gone ahead at Salesbury, the show wouldn't have been held at all".

The event will take place in July.
