MPs scrutinise casino plans
Blackpool illuminations
The committee is due to be in Blackpool for two days
Plans to build Las Vegas-style casinos in Blackpool are due to be considered by a committee of MPs and lords.

The 18-strong committee was travelling to the resort on Monday to gather opinions about the plans.

If the proposals are given the go-ahead, five hotel casinos along the resort's Golden Mile will form the centrepiece of regeneration in the town.

Information gathered during the two-day visit will be used by the committee in its consideration of the government's draft gambling bill.

Along with leisure companies who would develop the casinos, members of the authority will pitch their ideas to the committee.

Residents and organisations opposed to the expansion of gambling laws in the UK will also be voicing their opinions.

The government's draft gambling bill will be published in April next year.
