'Clare' digs for water quality
A machine called "Clare" is at the centre of a 38m project to improve domestic water supplies in Lancashire.

Up to 600,000 people are expected to benefit from the initiative, which started on Monday.

United Utilities (UU) is using Clare - a 50-tonne tunnelling machine - to enable it to construct a network of new pipes.

The scheme is expected to last two years and is part of a 3bn investment in the North West by the company.

Residents living in the Ribble Valley, Preston and the Fylde coast will benefit from the work.
