The sky around Dover is to be lit up in recognition of the Kent campaign to get the Olympic torch relay to enter the UK through the port. Light Up Dover has also been organised to launch the Cultural Olympiad, which aims to promote British culture in the lead up to London 2012. The fireworks display will take place in the harbour on 26 September. Mike Hill, of Kent County Council, said it was a chance to celebrate Dover and the part it could play in games. He added: "We are very grateful for Arts Council England's support for this innovative event which will show how passionately Kent feels about the Dover torch campaign and supporting London 2012." Felicity Harvest, of Arts Council England, said: "Dover is the gateway to England and the last Olympic torch arrived in the country via its famous port 60 years ago. "We welcome Dover and Kent's enthusiasm to show their potential to once again receive the Olympic torch in 2012. "This outdoor event is part of the town's renaissance and a fantastic launch for the Cultural Olympiad."
