Town honours FA Trophy victors

Players and officials from FA Trophy winners Ebbsfleet United FC are being honoured in their home town.

They are being presented with a Taking Pride in Gravesham civic award at the borough council's annual meeting in Gravesend Civic Centre on Tuesday.

The team beat Torquay 1-0 at Wembley on Saturday, watched by 25,000 fans from the Kent town.

An open-top bus parade is being still being finalised, but is expected to take place on Thursday evening.

"We decided some weeks ago that the club had done so well, even just to get to the final, that we were going to give it one of our civic awards," said councillor Mike Snelling, who was at Wembley.

"We had already asked the team to come along and now we are going to make the Taking Pride in Gravesham a special award at the mayor-making."

Bus parade

Some residents had hoped the bus parade would take place at the weekend, but players will be setting off on holiday then.

"Unfortunately we can't do it at the weekend," said chairman Brian Kilcullen.

"So the idea is to do it in the evening so people can get home from work and enjoy the celebrations."

The parade is likely to leave the Stonebridge Road ground at 1830 BST and work its way into Gravesend town centre.
