Ebbsfleet United striker Chris McPhee has praised his former Torquay United team-mates after his goal denied the Gulls a Wembley victory.

McPhee, who was part of the Torquay side a year ago, joined Ebbsfleet last summer.

"They've had a magnificent season and they've just missed out on both occasions," he told BBC Radio Devon.

"It's a bit heart-wrenching for myself as I wanted to see them bounce back into the league," he added.

"On reflection on the season, they fully deserved to go up. But we deserved to win today and we've beaten some good sides to get here today."
