A �300m project to build a privately funded hospital in Kent has progressed with the allocation of funding for much-needed roadworks on the A21. Millions of pounds were handed out across the region last week for roadworks including the dualling of the A21 between Pembury and Tonbridge.
Greg Clark, Tunbridge Wells MP, said the decision "removed a major stumbling block" to the new hospital at Pembury.
Planners had said roadworks must start for the hospital to open, he explained.
The Tunbridge Wells MP said the upgrade to turn the single carriageway road into a dual carriageway was set to begin in 2010.
But he added: "My next step will be to apply pressure for the start date to be brought forward.
"We have all waited long enough."
The hospital at Pembury, near Tunbridge Wells, will replace both the existing Pembury and Kent and Sussex hospitals.
The decision on who will build it is set to be made next February.
