Plan to merge schools is scrapped
Parents protesting against the closure
Parents protested against plans to merge two nearby schools
Proposals to merge two primary schools in Kent have been scrapped.

Medway Council had suggested merging Ridge Meadows and Oaklands, in Walderslade, to cope with falling pupil rolls expected in the next five years.

Walderslade has 16% too many places and the council held a public consultation about how to resolve the problem.

Parents protested against the merger and now Medway is to reduce the intake at Ridge Meadow from September 2006 instead of merging the schools.
