Talks have been held over the possibility of ferry services resuming between Folkestone and Boulogne. The owner of the Kent harbour, Roger de Haan, has travelled to the French port to try to work out a way of getting passenger services running again.
Hoverspeed ferries were stopped by Sea Containers four and a half years ago because of falling passenger numbers when duty free was scrapped.
No definite plans have been made but Folkestone campaigners remain hopeful.
Former Saga boss Roger de Haan bought Folkestone Harbour for �11m in August 2004.
Only fishing boats use it now but Philip Carter, from the Go Folkestone Action Group, thinks the harbour could soon see a return to the days when a million people made the crossing to Boulogne each year.

"I am not expecting it to happen tomorrow. We just know talks are going on," he said. "We are involved in those with Roger De Haan. We are involved with the Chamber of Commerce and the mayor's office, the new mayor of Boulogne.
"If anything is going to happen, I am sure with Boulogne and us on board and Roger de Haan owning the harbour, we are in for a pretty good chance of it."
