Future secure for unused harbour
Folkestone Harbour
The last passenger crossings to Boulogne were in September 2000
A buyer has finally been found for a harbour which has not been used for several years.

Bosses at Sea Containers, the parent company of Hoverspeed, have said they have found a purchaser for Folkestone Harbour, but have not revealed their name.

Hoverspeed used to run summer fast ferry sailings between the port and Boulogne, but cancelled the service to concentrate on the Dover-Calais route.

It is not yet known if ferry services to France will resume.

Politicians and local businesses have called for the reinstatement of the service to Boulogne.

Speculation about the future of Folkestone harbour followed the sale of Newhaven by Sea Containers to the Dieppe Chamber of Commerce, which also operates the French port.

A spokesman for Sea Containers said that neither the purchaser or the agreed price can be revealed, because of a confidentiality clause.

An announcement is expected in the next few weeks.
