Ferry operator resumes day trips
A P&O ferry at Calais
Day trips have been suspended since 8 February
A ferry operator has resumed day trips between Dover and Calais after delays over the past couple of weeks due to problems at Calais.

P&O made the decision on Thursday but SeaFrance said its day tripper service was still suspended.

Two berths at Calais were closed after a cable snapped, leaving just two available for P&O and SeaFrance to use.

P&O said it would review the situation on Friday and decide whether to continue the service for the weekend.

Safety inspections

The berth where the accident took place is still closed but two others have been reopened after repairs and safety inspections.

But P&O warned passengers to expect delays of up to two hours on Thursday afternoon due to the hold-ups in Calais.

Day trips have been suspended since a ramp overturned as a lorry disembarked at Calais on 8 February.

The disruption has led to hold-ups on the M20, with Operation Stack - where lorries travelling to Dover have to park on the coastbound motorway - implemented several times.
