Council lifts ban on phone masts
Phone mast
The council will consider every phone mast application on merit
A council has changed its policy on the use of its land for mobile phone masts in an attempt to deal with the increasing number of applications.

Gravesham Borough Council now wants other authorities, including Kent County Council, to follow suit.

Council leader John Burden said while there was some public concern about the siting of masts, there was "no medical proven problem" with them.

He said the use of council land would keep them away from residential areas.

"Where we have land available, we will be looking to encourage the phone mast companies to relocate them there," Mr Burden said.

However, he said every case would be considered on its merits.
