Michelle Greene said she panicked when she saw the mast |
A mother with young children says she is horrified a phone mast has been put up 9ft from her newly built house. Michelle Greene says the mast is sited close to her son's bedroom and is worried about health risks.
She bought the house in Bexhill, East Sussex, from Redrow Homes and said she would not have gone through with the sale if she had known about the mast.
Redrow Homes said Mrs Greene was told about plans for the Orange mast. Orange said there were no health risks.
'Thorough procedures'
Mrs Greene said: "On the Wednesday I came home from school and there the mast was - I had no notification at all whatsoever, I was not aware of it and I just panicked.
"We are not saying we do not want the mast because we realise masts have to go around.
"But what we are saying is we don't want it on our doorstep.
"We have got fields and fields of woodlands where it could go but not outside my house where I have two young children."
Orange said there are no health risks from the mast |
A spokesman for Redrow Homes said: "When our customers buy a new home, we have very thorough procedures in place, to ensure that they are fully informed about their property and the area surrounding it.
"Our records very clearly show that Mr and Mrs Greene were informed by us that Orange had made an application for the phone mast, which was near their property but outside of the Redrow development boundary.
"Redrow did raise an objection to this application but unfortunately planning approval was granted."
Orange, which installed the mast, said there are no guidelines on how close or far away the transmitters have to be from a house.
The company also says there are no health risks from the mast.
Mrs Greene and her neighbours are forming an action group and plan to lobby their MP in a bid to get the mast moved.
