An operation to get rid of dumped and untaxed cars has been the most successful in Kent, a council has said. More than 600 abandoned vehicles were removed in Thanet during Operation Cubit which ran over 58 days this year. "The figures speak for themselves and I am very proud of the actions and results the team are having in Kent," said John Kirby, of Thanet council.
He warned "a small minority" of residents their cars would be removed if left untaxed on the street.
'Knock-on effects'
Abandoned vehicles were removed from council-owned land and areas owned by other social landlords during the operation.
More than 400 of the vehicles removed were untaxed, the council said.
"The impact from Cubit creates positive results which have knock-on effects in reducing anti-social behaviour and crime within a community," said Mr Kirby.
Agencies involved included the council, Kent Police, Kent County Council, the DVLA and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
