Southern Water is inviting the public to view its planned 80m scheme
Plans for an 80m wastewater scheme in Thanet are to go on display.

Southern Water is proposing the multi-million pound environmental scheme for Margate and Broadstairs to improve water treatment.

The company is submitting plans to Kent County Council for the works at Weatherlees, near Sandwich, which will be on display this week.

Margate and Broadstairs are the only coastal resorts in Kent not to benefit from modern wastewater treatment.

Plans opposed

Around 20 million litres of wastewater is generated daily by the 93,000 residents of, and visitors to, the two seaside towns.

However, previous plans to upgrade the existing works at Foreness Point failed after residents opposed the expansion of the pumping station on a council-owned beauty spot.

Thanet District Council also refused to sell the land.

Southern Water is also seeking permission to refurbish its existing underground works at Foreness Point in Margate, and North Foreland in Broadstairs.

Three exhibitions this week will give the public a chance to look at all the details and pass comment.
