A massive regeneration scheme is planned for the town |
Plans to build a road through the centre of Dartford have been defended by the council. About 300 protesters joined a march on Saturday - and about 400 people turned out for an earlier demonstration.
The road, part of massive council regeneration plans, would go through Central Park and the Glentworth ex-servicemen's club.
Councillor Jeremy Kite said: "We have got a mountain to climb to make people understand what our plans are."
Dartford Borough Council's deputy leader added: "It isn't about saving the park although some of us at the council believe we are about to do just that.
"We are trying to create a new park there.
"It will be four acres bigger at the end of the process than at the beginning.
"And it will be restored to the kind of Edwardian promenade kind of reputation that it used to have and we are looking to make it a big asset."
