It is thought there are 30% more wasps in Medway this summer

Medway Council estimates there are 30% more wasps in the area than there usually are in the summer.

Environmental officers say this is because the mild winter weather saw more queens survive than usual and so more eggs hatched.

Earlier this year a 42-year-old man from Bidborough, near Tonbridge, died of a heart attack after being stung.

Seek medical help

Kevin Humphrey did not see a doctor for 10 hours after being stung, despite suffering a reaction.

His parents are warning other people stung by wasps to seek medical help immediately.

Medway Council said calls from residents about wasps' nests, swarms of the insects and other problems caused by them have risen sharply in recent weeks.
