Deal could see airport expansion
Manston Airport
By the end of 2004, 29 routes could be served from Manston
As many as two million passengers could be using Manston Airport in Kent over the next few years if plans by an airline operator go ahead.

Irish airline company EUjet wants to use Manston as its hub in the UK.

The firm is also talking to other airports which it hopes will form part of its route structure.

EUjet signed a conditional agreement with the airport which, if it goes ahead, could see 300,000 passengers use Manston in the first year.

'Similar opportunity'

It is hoped this figure could then rise to two million passengers by the end of the third year of operation.

Planestation, the airport owner and operator, signed the conditional agreement with EUjet on Thursday.

EUjet chief executive PJ McGoldrick, who was formerly CEO at Ryanair, said: "During my time at Ryanair I identified the potential and negotiated the arrangement which resulted in making Stansted Airport its UK hub.

"I foresee a similar opportunity at Kent International Airport Manston."

It is estimated that by the end of 2004, 29 routes will be served from Kent International Airport, Planestation said.
