The fun park could be replaced by 600 flats and a leisure complex

Multi-million pound plans which could change the face of Folkestone seafront have gone on show.

The proposals involve pulling down the Rotunda amusement park, which will shut at the end of the summer season.

Developers Trent Developments plan to replace the park with a bowling alley, cinema multiplex, bingo hall, health club and supermarket.

More than 600 flats will also be built at the 90-acre site, previously owned by entrepreneur Jimmy Godden.

The exhibition, including a scale model, will be on show at the Civic Centre from Wednesday until Tuesday 20 May.

Council blueprint

Visitors will be invited to comment on the design.

The plans have yet to be considered by Shepway District Council.

Andy Jarrett, the council's head of economic development services, said residents' views would be taken into account by council planners.

The Folkestone Development Guide, the council's blueprint for seafront and town centre regeneration, proposes residential, leisure, hotel, casino and marina uses for the site.

Mr Jarrett said the large retail element of Trent Development's plans would have to be considered carefully for its impact on traffic and the environment.
