1m investment to fuel town port
Ship unloading
It is hoped the development will help the port grow in years to come
Plans for a 1m storage tank at an East Yorkshire port have been announced by Britain's largest port operator.

AB Ports (ABP) is to build the facility in Goole on behalf of Renewable Fuels Ltd who expect to import 130,000 tonnes of green fuels to the port every year.

Ships will deliver materials including wood pellets and olive residue to be stored at the Caldaire Terminal before being sent on to to the power industry.

Goole has been chosen due to its transport links, the port company said.

Critical location

Matthew Kennerley, port director for Hull and Goole, said: "The biomass trade is a rapidly growing business, and this development emphasises the advantages that the Port of Goole offers in terms of its proximity to the large markets of Yorkshire and the Midlands.

"This new shed will help us accommodate growth in this sector over the coming years."

Managing director of Renewable Fuels Ltd, Bob Smith, said the move was an "exciting opportunity".

"The location of our store on the quay-side at Goole is critical and will enable an efficient discharge direct from ship to shed.

"Our products can then be transported via barge to the end-user which will represent real economic and environmental benefits to everyone in the supply chain."
