 The Immingham coal terminal is already being built |
An extra �15m is to be spent on a coal-handling terminal being built at the port at Immingham on the Humber. The cash is in addition to the �44.5m already being spent on the terminal by Associated British Ports (ABP).
This follows a new agreement with Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) to handle their coal imports from 2006.
ABP says it expects coal imports to increase in future years and the new terminal will enable them to be handled in an environmentally-friendly way.
Bo Lerenius, ABP's group chief executive, said: "Thanks to this new agreement with SSE we are now able to invest further in this new facility up to a total amount of almost �60m."
