Police authority chooses chairman
Graham Stroud
Graham Stroud was elected in a private ballot
A Tory politician from East Yorkshire has been appointed the new chairman of Humberside Police Authority.

East Riding councillor Graham Stroud was voted in at the authority's annual general meeting in Hull on Tuesday.

Mr Stroud replaces outgoing chairman Colin Inglis, who is under investigation by police over child abuse allegations which he denies.

Mr Inglis has been suspended from the Labour Party and the police authority pending the outcome of the inquiry.

Future 'healthy'

Two members of the authority had been nominated for the post. Mr Stroud was elected in a private ballot.

He said: "I always consider that competition is a healthy element to any environment and having been appointed will do my utmost to serve all members of the authority and those who work with us."

Mr Stroud thanked the previous chairman, who he said had brought Humberside Police through some very difficult times.

"I hope that we are now moving to a highly positive period and all the signs indicate that the future looks very healthy," he said.

"I am looking forward to this role tremendously."
