Colin Inglis was arrested by North Yorkshire Police on Tuesday |
The chairman of Humberside Police Authority has been suspended from the job pending the outcome of an inquiry into child abuse allegations. Colin Inglis, 48, is being investigated over claims of child abuse made against him by a former children's home resident. He denies the allegations.
His Labour Party membership has also been suspended.
The authority said that as Mr Inglis was no longer in the Labour Party he could not be a member of the body.
Vice-chairman of the authority, Graham Shroud, said: "Since attaining the chair in January 2001 he has made a significant contribution to the police authority and Humberside Police Force."
Mr Inglis was arrested on Tuesday by North Yorkshire Police, which is conducting the inquiry.
He is currently on police bail after being questioned on Tuesday and Wednesday.
