Bouncers get new licence deadline

Door staff without an SIA licence face prosecution after February
Door staff across northern Lincolnshire and east Yorkshire have been given more time to obtain a licence to make sure they do not fall foul of new laws.

All bouncers must be licensed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) under laws that came into force on Sunday.

Nightclubs can now be prosecuted if they employ anyone without a permit.

Anyone that has taken steps to obtain a licence now has until 13 February but Humberside Police say they could take action against those who have not.

Regular inspections

Assistant Chief Constable Alan Leaver said: "Humberside Police expects the highest standards of professional door supervision to operate to ensure that members of the public can feel safe and reassured within licensed premises.

"It will be a condition of licences issued under the new Licensing Act 2003 for all supervisors to be licensed under the SIA licensing scheme and deliberate breaches of the regulations could impact on licensing applications."

Inspections will be carried out throughout December and January to check individuals and premises are complying with the new legislation.
