Bouncers get extra time for badge
Door staff in Gloucestershire have been given extra time to gain their new security licences

Administrative problems within the new Security Industry Authority (SIA) mean only a few received accreditation in time for the 13 September deadline.

Police said that for a discretionary period, they would not prosecute those bouncers affected by the delays.

However, they must have proof that they have applied for an SIA licence and also hold a current Doorsafe badge.

Superintendent Nigel Avron, of the force's Community Partnership department, said: "With the number of door staff involved, it would be impractical, not to say unfair, to prosecute every individual for not having a licence.

"Apart from anything else, they would be prevented from working and pubs and clubs across the county would not have any security staff on duty, putting the safety of the public at risk.

The period of grace will last until 23 November.
