Two teenagers had to be airlifted from the base of the cliff

Coastguards say a group of teenagers had been having a barbecue and drinking alcohol on the cliff at Filey Brigg.

An RAF helicopter and inshore lifeboat were scrambled, and a 17-year-old girl was taken to Scarborough hospital. A boy was treated at the scene.

Coastguards said the teenagers could easily have been killed and urged people not to jump into the sea.

Dangerous activity

A rescue helicopter from RAF Leconfield, an inshore lifeboat and the coastguard were scrambled at 1930 BST on Tuesday after the ambulance service reported casualties at the base of an 80ft cliff.

Police say two teenagers had jumped from a ledge on the cliff into the sea - a pursuit which has become known as "tomb stoning".
